When is Sigd 2020?

This Ethiopian Jewish holiday begins at sundown on Sunday, November 15th, 2020.

The uniquely Beta Israel (Ethiopian Jewish) holiday of Sigd takes place on the 29th day of the Hebrew month of Cheshvan, exactly 50 days after Yom Kippur.

In 2020, Sigd begins at sundown on Sunday, November 15th and concludes at sundown on Monday, November 16th.

Sigd is thought to be the date on which God first revealed himself to Moses. It celebrates accepting Torah and one of its overriding themes is yearning for the Temple.

Since 2008, Sigd has been recognized as a state holiday in Israel and a month’s worth of celebrations usually precede the actual date of the holiday.
