Lives and Afterlives: Kabbalah and Reincarnation

Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning

This program with Kabbalah expert Dr. Hartley Lachter will explore the Jewish concept of the afterlife, including the belief in reincarnation embraced by many kabbalists since the late 13th century. Participants will learn how reincarnation has been described by Jewish thinkers and how kabbalists used the idea to interpret Jewish history and the endurance of national misfortunes. The session will also discuss contrasting views, such as those of Saadia Gaon, who rejected reincarnation.
