YIVO in America
Hosted By: YIVO
The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research marks its centennial with a conference examining how its original mission—to advance Jewish social sciences—evolved after relocating from Vilna to New York in 1940. Despite the destruction of its European base during the Holocaust, YIVO reestablished itself as a hub for Yiddish scholarship, Holocaust studies, and Jewish cultural preservation. Scholars will reflect on YIVO’s enduring impact and consider its future role in shaping Jewish studies in America and beyond.
