Virtual Walking Tour: Lima, Peru

Hosted By: The Museum of Jewish Heritage-- A Living Memorial to the Holocaust

See and learn about the Jewish history of Peru’s capital city of Lima, focusing on the period during the 17th century Spanish occupation of Peru. Tourists will follow the footsteps Manuel Bautista Perez, a Portuguese merchant and member of the “secret” Jewish community of Lima who was accused of being Jewish in 1635 and later killed by the Inquisition in 1639. Learn about the history of one of the lesser known, smallest, and oldest non-indigenous communities of Peru from Lima-born guide, Vanessa, who has surprising Jewish roots herself.
