The Jews of Panama: A Thriving Community Between Two Oceans

Hosted By: Qesher

Panama is unique for its geographical position where one can witness the sunrise in the Pacific Ocean and set on the Atlantic Ocean, and it is notable for having had two Jewish presidents in the 20th century. It is home to the largest continuously existing Jewish community in Central America, numbering 10,000-12,000, which has been growing with the recent influx of Jews from other Latin American countries. Qesher offers a virtual journey exploring the historical, demographic, social, gastronomic, and spiritual facets of this small but prosperous community.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
