Commentary on Parashat Shmini, Leviticus 9:1-11:47

Every week, Julie Seltzer, artist and Torah scribe, bakes a challah depicting an aspect of the week’s Torah portion.

And a fire came forth…and [the people] fell on their faces. (Leviticus 9:24)

וַתֵּצֵא אֵשׁ…וַיִּפְּלוּ עַל-פְּנֵיהֶם

God comes and consumes the burnt offering and fat from the altar, and the people go into shock at the sight of this. Here you can see the fire flaming on the altar, and the people fallen down.
