Cover Up or Double Down? Jewish Visibility in a Time of Rising Antisemitism

Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning

The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Education presents a session examining what Jewish tradition says about how we present ourselves in public, especially when safety and identity are at stake. Rabbi Jonah Rank explores Talmudic sources on wearing ritual items in public, the origins of the kippah, and debates over visible Jewish markers. Drawing on historical and modern perspectives, the class considers how Jews have navigated identity, visibility, and vulnerability from ancient times to today.
