Theodore Fried (1902-1980): In Hiding and Beyond

Hosted By: The Fritz Ascher Society for Persecuted, Ostracized and Banned Art

The Fritz Ascher Society for Persecuted, Ostracized and Banned Art presents a program on the life and work of Hungarian Jewish artist Theodore Fried (1902–1980). Educated at the Budapest Academy of Fine Arts, Fried moved to Vienna in 1924 and Paris in 1925, where he held his first solo exhibition in 1928 and participated in major shows across Europe before his work was denounced as “degenerate” by the Nazis in 1933. He later fled to the United States, where he continued his career, and today his collection is housed at the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
