Jews of Siberia

Hosted By: Qesher

Siberia is always bitterly cold, and dangerous, brown bears walk its streets – as the popular stereotype says. But is it really so? In this talk, learn about life on this vast territory during the last 400 years. Jews of the Pale of Settlement tried to escape to America, to Palestine – but some of them chose a different route and went to Siberia. Others were forced to go there. Explore when and how Jews got to Siberia, where they settled and what they did while the country and the world went through major changes time and again.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
