The Renewal of Yiddish Culture in Continental Europe

Hosted By: The National Library of Israel (NLI)

In the 1970s, everyone assumed that Yiddish culture was a thing of the past. Dead.

Yet already in the following decade, a spectacular revival of interest in just about everything to do with Yiddish began and it has continued ever since!

Join NLI for a discussion on the renewal of European interest in Yiddish, with a particular focus on France:

“The Renewal of Yiddish Culture in Continental Europe”
With writer, publisher and translator Dr. Gilles Rozier

Monday, February 21st
8 pm Israel / 7 pm CET / 6 pm UK / 1 pm EST

Gilles Rozier holds a PhD in Yiddish literature and was the director of the main Yiddish cultural center in Europe, the Paris Yiddish Center-Medem Library, from 1994 to 2014. His novel “D’un pays sans amour” (2011) retraces the friendship between three Yiddish poets: Peretz Markish, Uri-Tsvi Grinberg and Melekh Ravitsh.
