Reincarnators aren’t the only people interested in Anne Frank. The Diary of Anne Frank was recently translated in the Khmer, the language of Cambodia.
The project was undertaken by Sayana Ser, the director of the Documentation Center of Cambodia, which researches the Khmer Rouge genocide. Between 1975 and 1979, between 1.5 and 2 million people perished at the hands of the Pol Pot and his regime.
“Under Pol Pot, many children were separated from their families. They faced starvation and were sent to the front to fight and die,� Sayana Ser explains. “Like Anne, they never knew peace and the warmth of a home.�
Inspired by Anne’s diary, she adds, some Cambodian students have begun to write their own diaries to chronicle the sorrows and joys of their daily lives. (MORE)
