Yom HaShoah: Assia’s Story with Second Generation Survivor Mark Berez

Hosted By: The Olga Lengyel Institute for Holocaust Studies and Human Rights (TOLI)

Join TOLI on April 28 for a Day of Remembrance commemoration for the victims of the Holocaust. This special Yom HaShoah program will feature Assia Raberman, Holocaust survivor and beloved TOLI mentor, and her nephew, Mark Berez, will share his experience as a second generation survivor. Mark is the president of TOLI.

Her happy childhood turned into a struggle to survive when the Nazis arrived in her hometown, Mizoch, Poland. Given by her parents to shelter with a Catholic family, Assia survived the war as a ‘hidden child,’ enduring the most harrowing experiences. Tragically, her parents and almost all of her extended family were killed in the Holocaust. Only her brother, Isaac, and herself survived. After the war they moved to Israel where Assia built a new life, devoting herself to working with children with special needs. The program will be moderated by Harry Wall, a member of the TOLI board of directors.
