When Truth-Telling Gets Complicated: Torah and the Ethics of Lying

Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning

Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Education presents a session examining the story of Abram and Sarai’s journey to Egypt, where Abram lies about his relationship to Sarai to protect himself. Through this episode, the class explores Jewish teachings on truth and deception: when lying is prohibited, when it may be permitted, and how Jewish tradition navigates moral complexity. Participants will study sources across the tradition to reflect on honesty, self-preservation, and ethical decision-making.
