Torah Trope 101: Learn to Chant the Torah

Hosted By: My Jewish Learning

Start the Jewish New Year off by learning how to properly chant the Torah!

Torah cantillation is an ancient system for reading and chanting from the Torah. It imbues the text with intent and meaning, and it beautifies the experience for listeners.

Whether you are planning to read Torah at a child or grandchild’s bar/bat mitzvah, want to become a Torah reader in your community or are simply curious about cantillation, this course will introduce you to:

  • Basic concepts behind chanting Torah
  • How the system of cantillation functions
  • And guidance for learning a Torah reading

Students should know the Hebrew alphabet and be able to read some Hebrew, but fluency is not required.

5 Wednesdays from 8-9 pm ET, Nov. 12-Dec. 17

No class the night before Thanksgiving.
