The Song of Songs: How to Use Erotic Love

Hosted By: The Conservative Yeshiva

“Open to me, my love, my perfect one, for my head is full of dew, my locks dripping with drops of night” (Song of Songs 5:2-4). As our Rabbis understand it, this passage describes God’s willingness to take Israel back to him after having sinned. We’ll read the Song of Songs on two levels, delighting in the wonderfully evocative sexual metaphors and exploring how they might make sense as a framework for conceptualizing God.
