The Book Banning Brouhaha

Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning

In the United States of America, freedom of expression is one of our most core values. But people across the country are feeling more and more threatened by ideas found not just in the spoken word, but in the written word as well. This has led to a rise in the banning of certain books across the United States. Thankfully, Judaism has some keen insights to help us navigate this sensitive subject. The Jewish people, in fact, have a lot of experience with book banning, even, at times, declaring certain books off limits for Jewish readers! Join expert Melton educator Lynne Lieberman as we explore Jewish history’s relationship with book banning and consider how it relates to current events. Looking at ancient Jewish texts, famous pieces of Jewish literature, and our people’s history with this issue, Lynne will help us shed new light on this rising concern.
