Qesher Book Club: ‘Finding Home (Hungary, 1945)’

Hosted By: Qesher

Qesher Book Club presents “Finding Home (Hungary, 1945)” by Dean Cycon. The story follows 18-year-old Eva Fleiss, who, after surviving nine months in Auschwitz by imagining herself playing the piano, returns to her hometown in Laszlo, Hungary, with the five other surviving Jews. As they attempt to restart their lives, Eva seeks a connection to her past by arranging to clean her former home, now occupied by the mayor, in exchange for piano practice time, leading to profound musical performances that resonate unexpectedly with the community.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
