Unraveling Kafka

Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning

This new Melton International class, led by literary scholar Dr. Rachel Seelig, offers a journey through Franz Kafka’s enigmatic world, where writing is “impossible” and understanding remains elusive. Participants will read short fictional texts, letters, and diary entries to gain a deeper understanding of Kafka’s work and his inner world, where Jewish identity played a significant role. The class will also examine Kafka’s legacy and the legal battle over his literary estate, highlighting the blend of humor, terror, and existential uncertainty that defines his universe and offers insights into Jewish identity.
