Qesher Book Club: ‘Family Declassified’

Hosted By: Qesher

The Qesher Book Club will discuss “Family Declassified,” in which social scientist Katherine Fennelly examines the rationale and consequences of family secrets through the story of her grandfather, Francis Kalnay, a high-level spy for the Allied forces in Europe. In 1954, Francis abandoned his family and fled to Mexico, where he reinvented himself as a children’s book author, architect, and gourmand, never speaking of his Jewish ancestry, his espionage work, or the murder of his sister and nephew by Hungarian fascists.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
