Qesher Book Club: ‘Caravan of Hope: A Bukharan Woman’s Journey to Freedom’

Hosted By: Qesher

Qesher Book Club presents “Caravan of Hope: A Bukharan Woman’s Journey to Freedom,” a historical nonfiction based on the life of Zina Abraham, born in a Soviet Uzbek prison in 1933. The narrative follows her harrowing escape with her mother to Afghanistan and her subsequent travels through Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Israel, and finally, the United States in pursuit of religious freedom and education. Central to Abraham’s story is her survival, deep faith, and dedication to fostering a Jewish life for herself and her community.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
