Qesher Book Club: Across So Many Seas

Hosted By: Qesher

The Qesher Book Club presents Ruth Behar’s Pura Belpré Award-winning novel “Across So Many Seas,” an epic narrative spanning over 500 years that tells the stories of four girls from different generations of a Jewish family. The novel traces their journeys, beginning with Benvenida during the Spanish Inquisition in 1492, through Reina’s relocation to Cuba in 1923, Alegra’s escape to Miami in 1961 amid Fidel Castro’s regime, and culminating with Paloma’s heritage discovery in Spain in 2003. Each character’s story highlights the courage and resilience passed down through generations despite the vast distances and time separating them.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
