Historically, the ketubah was a legal document that certified that a Jewish marriage had taken place. In modern wedding ceremonies, we see ketubahs that are works of art and signify the set of promises that partners make to each other. Some ketubahs have more traditional language, some have more modern text written specifically for interfaith couples, and other couples opt to write their own ketubah language.
