Maven AJU Hebrew Classes Winter 2023

Sundays, Starting January 8

1:00 PM

  • Beginner 5
    • For beginning students. join AJU Instructor, Alisa Lotatti as you explore adjectives, Piel in present tense, numbers over 10 in feminine, and Hif’il in the present tense.
  • Intermediate 3
    • For intermediate students. Topics include: ‘first’ and ‘later,’ uniqe places in Jerusalem, advertisments, directions, and more verbs and infinitives.
  • Intermediate 5
    • For intermediate Hebrew speakers who want to converse in Hebrew and review the five groups of verbs in present and past tense. This course will be dedicated to preparation for the Advanced 1 class.
  • Advanced 1
    • For advanced students. Topics include: the Temporal (time) clause before and after, future tense-Piel-Kal Lamed Yod, and declension of prepositions: without and as.
  • Advanced 2
    • For advanced students interested in deepening their Hebrew skills. Join this class to explore conditional sentences, syntax, and passive verbs. In addition we will be covering more of the future tense.
  • Intro to Prayerbook Hebrew
    • For those of you who always wanted to read Hebrew – here is your chance! Join this class to learn how to read print letters with vowels in 10 weeks of 2-hour sessions. No prior knowledge of Hebrew needed.

  • Prayerbook Hebrew Level 4
    • For beginning Prayer Book students that are half-way through the book, you will be studying the word את, this and that, possessive endings, and more parts of prayers and blessings.

5:00 PM

  • Beginner 1
    • For students with no prior knowledge of Hebrew. This course covers the first 5 units in the book, ‘Hebrew from Scratch.’ You’ll learn reading, writing, and basic conversational skills.

Mondays, Starting January 9

8:00 PM

  • Prayerbook Hebrew Level 1
    • For beginning Prayer Book students. You will be studying parts of prayers and blessings.
  • Prayerbook Hebrew Level 2
    • For beginning Prayer Book students. You will be studying parts of prayers and blessings, possessive endings for singular nouns, and participles.
  • Beginner 2
    • For beginning students. You will study numbers in feminine 0-12, the clock, verbs in present tense, the house and the apartment, and conversing in Hebrew.

9:00 PM

  • Intermediate 1
    • For our intermediate Hebrew speakers. Increase your reading and writing skills. Learn the parts of the body and the Ayin-Vav verbs in the past tense.

10:00 PM

  • Advanced 4
    • For advanced students interested in perfecting their Hebrew skills and knowledge of Hebrew culture.

Tuesdays, Starting January 10

1:00 PM

  • Advanced 2
    • For advanced students interested in deepening their Hebrew skills. Join AJU Instructor, Aliza Klainman, as you explore more of the future tense and prepositions.
  • Intermediate 4
    • For intermediate students. Topics include: Past tense of nominal sentences, past tense of (ל”ה) type of verbs, numbers 100-1000, and clothing – what to wear.

  • Prayerbook Hebrew Level 5
    • This level 5 course teaches the Hebrew found in the siddur prayerbook, and is for those with some prior knowledge or who have taken lower-level courses with Maven.

7:00 PM

  • Intermediate Biblical Hebrew
    • During this class, you will study popular words, nouns, verbs, perfect tense, the direct object, and the construct state as found in chapters of the Hebrew Bible and implemented in additional paragraphs. The class will complement each chapter with chosen authentical verses from the Hebrew Bible. The course will cover chapters 1-10 in the book which contain review and new material.

  • Advanced 1
    • For advanced students. Topics include: Temporal (time) clause – before and after, and future tense-Piel, Kal Lamed Yod. Declension of the prepositions as and without.

Wednesdays, Starting January 11

  • Prayerbook Hebrew Level 3
    • Join AJU Instructor, Sarah Har Shalom as this level 3 beginner course teaches you the Hebrew found in a Jewish prayerbook, and is for those with some prior knowledge or who have taken the lower-level courses with Maven.
  • Prayerbook Hebrew Level 5
    • This level 5 course teaches the Hebrew found in the Siddur prayerbook, and is for those with some prior knowledge or who have taken the lower-level courses with Maven.

9:00 PM

  • Intermediate 3
    • For our intermediate students. Topics include: First and later, uniqe places in Jerusalem, advertisments, directions, and more verbs and infinitives.

Thursdays, Starting January 12th

12:30 PM

  • Advanced 3
    • For advanced students. Join AJU Instructor, Aliza Klainman, as you deepen your knowledge of current events, grammar, and conversation in Hebrew. Read and discuss articles.

9:00 PM

  • Beginner 3
    • In this class, explore adjectives, masculine cardinal numbers 1-10, prepositions, and days of the week.
  • Intermediate 1
    • For intermediate Hebrew speakers. Increase your reading and writing skills. Learn the parts of the body and the Ayin-Vav verbs in the past tense.

10:00 PM

  • Intermediate 5
    • For intermediate Hebrew speakers who want to converse in Hebrew and review the five groups of verbs in present and past tense. Learn street signs and more.
