LGBTQ+ Poetic Voices in Israel
Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning
Israeli poetry is as diverse as its population and offers a window into the unique and varied voices of Israeli society. In this special one-time session with world-renowned Israeli poetry expert, Rachel Korazim, focus on three of Israel’s most prominent LGBTQ+ poets, whose works span the decades of Israel’s history. Explore the works of Robert Friend, one of the earliest openly gay Israeli poets, who lived at a time in which very few homosexuals felt comfortable writing about their personal lives. The poems of Dory Manor will take you into the complexities of homosexual love across ideological divides in Israel. And Daniel Segal Weingarten’s voice brings us to the present day, when there is relative acceptance but fears of a darker future. Through the journeys and works of these three incredible poets, you will gain a better understanding not just of Israeli culture, but of Israeli society.
