In its early years Israel faced a more or less uniformly hostile neighborhood. That is no longer true. The region has changed, Israel has made peace with two of its neighbors, Egypt and Jordan, and it has recently normalized relations with other important nearby states. The most serious threat to Israel today is posed by Iran, which in the past was friendly to Israel. So what are Israel’s choices in this new strategic environment?
