Get to Know: The Izmir Jewish Cultural Heritage Project

Hosted By: Qesher

This session explores the rich history of Izmir’s Jewish community, which grew significantly following the Sephardi migration from Spain in the 15th century. Jews played a key role in shaping Izmir’s religious and cultural life, especially in the 17th and 18th centuries, and their heritage still echoes in the city today. The discussion will focus on the Izmir Jewish Cultural Heritage Project, launched in 2010 to preserve and promote this legacy.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
