Sweet Home Alabama?

Yesterday, I had never heard of Dothan, Alabama.  Today, I might be considering a move there.  Larry Blumberg and his organization, The Blumberg Family Jewish Community Services of Dothan, are offering up to $50,000 to any Jewish family that is willing to pack up and resettle in his town.  The community, which has approximately fifty Jewish families, is getting older and is worried of dying out.

Mr. Blumberg is actually offering a pretty good deal.  Included in the $50,000 is up to $15,000 in student loans, free membership in Temple Emanu-El, and free private school for your children (I can only assume it isn’t a Jewish Day School).  Dothan is pretty close to the Florida border, as well as the Gulf Coast.

But Jewish mothers beware: Dothan, Alabama is the Peanut Capital of the World and hosts the Annual National Peanut Festival.  We all know how much our children love allergies.
