Parenting as a Spiritual Practice

Can parenting be a spiritual practice? Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg argues that raising children can transform an individual’s experience of wonder, radical amazement, prayer, and God. She asserts that expression of prayer can expand as parents recognize both the mundane and challenging moments of parenthood, and that parenting can change one’s understanding and image of God. Ultimately, Ruttenberg argues that parenthood as a spiritual practice makes one more aware of the sacred in one’s own life and family life.

Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg is the scholar in residence at the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) and the author of seven books.
