Qesher Book Club: The Jews of Lithuania — A Journey Through the Long Twentieth Century

Hosted By: Qesher

The Qesher Book Club explores a story of Jewish life in Lithuania in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, tracing how rising hardships led many to emigrate while others remained behind. Those who left brought Lithuanian Jewish traditions and learning with them, shaping new communities abroad. The book also examines the fate of those who stayed, the devastation of the Holocaust, and how postwar Lithuanian society has reckoned with its past.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
