Art and Conscience in a Time of Upheaval. Ben Shahn (1898-1969)

Hosted By: The Fritz Ascher Society for Persecuted, Ostracized and Banned Art

Hosted by The Fritz Ascher Society for Persecuted, Ostracized and Banned Art, this program explores the life and work of Ben Shahn (1898–1969), a Lithuanian-born artist who became a leading figure in American Social Realist painting. Shahn’s politically charged art championed left-wing causes while simultaneously celebrating and critiquing the American dream. His work remains as relevant today as it was in his time.
