Josephus’ Retelling of Biblical Stories

Hosted By: Haberman Institute

Although the text of the Bible was not fully “standardized” until the 8-9 century CE, the books of the Bible were written down more or less in their final form at least a thousand years earlier. With so many passing centuries before final standardization, it is fascinating to explore the various retelling of biblical stories during this time.

In this course, look at the way the Roman Jewish historian, Josephus Flavius, retells some biblical stories in his book “The Antiquities of the Jews,” written around 93-94 CE.
