Oh Brother: Cain, Abel, and Sibling Rivalry

Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning

Sibling dynamics can be challenging. Nowhere is that clearer than in the Bible. In this class, take a close look at story of Cain and Abel – the Bible’s first and quite extreme example of sibling rivalry. Discuss the differences between Cain and Abel and what really led to Abel’s murder. Finally, look at this case study of sibling rivalry through the lens of classical and modern Bible commentaries, using it as a launching point to explore similar relationships throughout the Bible. Adding your own insights and experiences, consider how the lessons from these stories apply to your life.
