Joshua: Realizing the Dream

Hosted By: London School of Jewish Studies (LSJS)

Joshua faces what is, perhaps, one of the most difficult tasks in the whole of Tanakh – succeeding Moses, our greatest prophet and leader. How will the generation of the wilderness adjust to this new style of leadership and to a new life in the Land of Israel? After wandering for 40 years, will the reality live up to their expectations?

This course will trace the account of the Israelites’ first steps in the Promised Land as told in the book of Joshua, through the eyes of the commentators. The London School of Jewish Studies will follow the conquest of the land, explore the Children of Israel’s moral dilemma in dispossessing the indigenous nations and analyze the success of the transition from a nomadic tribe to an established nation.
