The Canteen is a tribute to all things Jewish sleepaway camp. Hosted by the Foundation for Jewish Camp (FJC), this blog is written by campers, alumni, parents, and camp professionals and is a place to talk about parenting, camp fun, projects, crafts, recipes, and more – all tied back to Jewish holidays, traditions and, of course, camp!
With over 155 different Jewish overnight camps, you can expect over 155 different sets of traditions, activity choices, communities, and ways of connecting to Judaism. BUT – even with all those differences, there are some camp traditions that are just universally CAMP. Campfires, s’mores, Color War (or Maccabiah/Yom Sport/Olympiad), lanyards (or boondoggle/gimp), Shabbat-o-grams, song sessions, and TIE-DYE!!!
Need to brush up on your tie-dying skills, or just want to bring that summer camp feeling back this winter? Here’s a fun little primer on how to master some mad tie-dying skills. Time to bust out those white tees!!! (And socks! And pillow cases!)
