In mid-November, the National American Jewish History Museum is opening up a brand new facility in Philadelphia.
According to their press statement:
The $150 Million, 100,000 square foot museum will be the only institution of its kind solely dedicated to telling the wide-ranging story of the Jewish American experience from 1654 (when Jews first arrived on this continent) to the present.
The weekend of November 12-14 will feature many celebratory events, including a opening gala feature Bette Midler and Jerry Seinfeld. If you’re in the area and can afford it, you should probably go. Just a piece of advice.
But you don’t have to wait until November or even live in Philly to get some great content. Their website is actually pretty cool. I thought I’d highlight one area, the camp section.
It’s funny that even with my degree in American Jewish history, the first thing I noticed on their site was about camp. I guess I’m obsessed. But the section is awesome. They are asking people to submit photos from their past camp lives to fill up their database. And they have a ton of camps involved. Really, check it out.
