Music+Pie

Some combinations are so divine, so utterly brilliant, it seems inconceivable that the two things ever existed separately:
Chocolate and Peanut Butter
Abbot and Costello
Dungeons and Dragons
Lulav and Etrog
Israelis and Arguing
Hollywood and Plastic Surgery
Jeans and T-shirts
Siskel and Ebert
Washers and Dryers
Penelope Cruz’s Left Boob and Penelope Cruz’s Right Boob

To that illustrious list I must add:
A jazz-punk-country hybrid and Pie

That’s right. Pitom, the band headed by Yoshie Fruchter is having a show this Wednesday, and in addition to the rocking that is guaranteed to occur, there will also be homemade pie. That’s right, pie made in somebody’s home. And not just anyone’s home, the home of Leah Koenig, MJL contributor and generally amazing chef. People, I have made pie in Leah’s home with her, and I can say from experience, it is freaking awesome. If you’re in New York on Wednesday, and you don’t show up for Leah’s husband’s tunes, and Leah’s pies…well, I feel very very sorry for you.

Here are the details:
Date: Wednesday, March 10, 2010
Time: 7:30pm – 10:30pm
Location: Dixon Place
Street: 161A Chrystie St., New York, NY

Here’s what you need to know about Pitom

Pitom is one of those galactic events that has a one-in-a-gazillion chance of happening and actually does: a jazz-punk-country hybrid. The kind of music that could only come from a culture known for wandering. The soundtrack to being lost in the desert for 40 years. Cacophonic guitar, surly heavy-metal bass and a soaring violin, so ethereal that the listener needs those mosh-pit drums to rocket you back down to Earth. Yoshie Fruchter and his erstwhile collaborators in Pitom have already set the New York City ablaze with their on-stage presence, and this — the first document of their remarkable presence on the planet — is a beautiful and caustic warning to the rest of the world.

The pie contents appear to be top secret, but I can tell you they’ll be mind blowingly good.
