Playing Hookie

So while Jews across the country were locked inside Rosh Hashanah services for the past two days, the world outside came crashing down. The stock market plummeted and the government couldn’t agree on a bailout plan.

You’d think that Congress would be hard at work trying to resolve the issue. Wrong. The House took two days off for Rosh Hashanah, and the Senate postponed votes.

While Slate explains when Congress closes for religious holidays, Jon Stewart and the Jews at The Daily Show take issue with the House. Arguing if he had to work, his staff had to work, and his rabbi had to work, then surely the House could convene to try solve the financial crisis.

He chides representatives from Wyoming and Utah for taking off the day, which is kind of like Zack Morris taking the holiday as well.
