What Does Wine Have To Do With Redemption?

Hosted By: My Jewish Learning

For wine-lovers and others, the four cups of wine are among the biggest highlights of the Seder. Together with Rabbi David Polsky, we’ll explore the historical context of the four cups and, with it, appreciate how the rabbis use the four cups to express an important social message. We will also analyze the role the cups play in re-experiencing the Exodus. Finally, we will ponder why there are four cups rather than any other number. In addition to one of the common answers we’ll also examine the perspective of the Jerusalem Talmud, which suggests that drinking the four cups moves us closer and closer to the final redemption.
