Tour of Jewish Bessarabia: Today’s Moldova

Hosted By: Qesher

Today Moldova is still a home to some 15,000 – 20,000 Jews. Historically, this land was known as Bessarabia, and Jews had already settled here by the 16th century. Along the tour, you will visit some of the typical Jewish towns of Bessarabia. Walk along the streets of Kishinev, once a city with at least 50,000 Jews (more than 40% of the city’s population). Learn about Kishinev’s Synagogues, the Jewish political and intellectual leaders and everyday Jewish life. Take a look at the past and present and also discuss the future of Kishinev’s Jewish community.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
