The Pursuit of Liberty and the Earliest American Synagogues

Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning

This program explores the establishment of some of America’s oldest and most famous synagogues, including the first six that existed at the founding of the United States. Participants will learn how these congregations were founded, who established them, and the priorities of their early communities. Through examining these early Jewish settlements, the session will offer new insights into the factors that have shaped American Judaism today.
