The New Scientific Promise of Conquering Death: Jewish Reflections
Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning
Quite a few scientists and futurists are now suggesting that in the 21st century, we will actually conquer death, allowing us to live healthy lives indefinitely. If this becomes possible, does Judaism regard it as a worthy reality? Do our Jewish sources see life without end as a desirable goal? Or, are we, in fact, supposed to die? The Jewish emphasis on extending life as far as possible is well-known. But does that mean that Judaism would see it as a “good” to extend life forever?
