The Mysteries of an Ancient Library: Surprising Lessons from the Dead Sea Scrolls

Hosted By: Jewish Theological Seminary of America (JTS)

Most people have heard of the Dead Sea Scrolls, and many have even seen the fragments on display at the Shrine of the Book at the Israel Museum. But what do we actually know about their creation and contents? And beyond revealing the ideas of particular Jewish sect, does this ancient library have any relevance to us today?

Examining both the library as a whole and outstanding individual texts, we will explore the ways the Qumran library deepens our appreciation of the diversity of Judaism in the century before the Rabbis and Jesus.
