The Jews of Georgia: A Diverse and Ancient Community in the Caucasus

Hosted By: Qesher

Travel to the Caucasus Mountains and get acquainted with a diverse Jewish world, one that still sings in Georgian, Yiddish, Ladino, and Jukhuri. All these languages were spoken by Georgia’s Jewish communities, something that made the country one of the most unique locations in the Jewish world. From its peak of 100,000 members, today, the Georgian Jewish population comprises only a few thousand people after the majority immigrated to Israel, the United States, and Belgium.

Host

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
