The Jews of Galicia (Western Ukraine): A Virtual Tour of Lviv and Brody

Hosted By: Qesher

Qesher presents a virtual journey through Galicia exploring the Jewish history of Lviv, a city that changed hands from Poland to Austria, back to Poland, then to the USSR, and finally to independent Ukraine. Jews settled there as early as the 13th century, and at its height Lviv had around one hundred synagogues alongside flourishing religious, commercial, and intellectual life. The tour also visits Brody, now a small and little-known town but once one of the most important Jewish centers in Europe.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
