Sovereignty, Violence and Morality: Zionism and the Ethics of Judaism (Part 3/4 Sacred Sovereignty and Messianic Zionism)
Hosted By: Orange County Jewish Community Scholar Program ("CSP")
This four-part seminar explores the interplay between religion and sovereignty within the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the broader dynamics of political Zionism. Topics include the potential constructive and toxic outcomes of combining religion with state, the role of religious values in moderating nationalist zeal, and the influence of power in Zionist expressions of Jewish sovereignty. A range of perspectives will be studied, from anti-Zionist views and militaristic nationalism to messianic and pacifist ideologies, analyzing how these have shaped and continue to influence Israeli politics.
