People of the Book – American Jewish Literature

Hosted By: The Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning

What modern stories do we, as American Jews, remember and tell about ourselves? From your bookshelves, the best-seller lists, and modern scholarship on Jewish literature and popular culture, Dr. Zollman has selected three titles that play an important role in shaping modern American Jewish memory and identity: Tevye the Dairyman/Fiddler on the Roof, The Diary of Anne Frank, and Exodus. Together, we’ll explore the creation, production, and reception of these books, and discuss what their popularity can tell us about American Jewish life.
