Looking Back at Matronita: Jewish Feminist Art

Hosted By: The National Library of Israel (NLI)

In this lecture, Dvora Liss, Judaica Curator at the Mishkan Museum of Art in Ein Harod, explores the roles of women in Judaism through an examination of Jewish feminist art.

According to Liss, there is a very important universal conversation taking place regarding the marginalization of women in Judaism that leads Jewish women to create art from this vantage point. Liss seeks to push the conversation beyond sweeping overviews by looking at examples of art produced by Jewish American and Israeli female artists. The National Library of Israel will re-examine the exhibition, “Matronita—Jewish Feminist Art”, that was held in 2012 at the Mishkan Museum of Art in Ein Harod. Dvora Liss the co-curator of this show, (curated together with Dr. David Sperber) will present the works from this groundbreaking exhibition together with shows that she curated post Matronita.
