Jewish Moscow: A Century and a Half of Upheaval and Resurgence

Hosted By: Qesher

This event, presented by Qesher, will explore the history and current state of Jewish life in Moscow, Russia’s capital and home to its largest Jewish community. The discussion will span approximately 140-150 years, tracing the community’s journey from the time Jews were first permitted to settle in Moscow to the present day. The talk will include visits to significant Jewish sites in the city, including both old and new synagogues, the Jewish Community Center, the Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center, and the Holocaust Memorial Synagogue. Additionally, the presentation will examine the changes in the Jewish community and its atmosphere in Moscow since February 24, 2022.

Qesher

There are Jewish communities all around the globe with their own unique history, culture, places, and most of all, people and stories. All of them different, but sharing so much. The aim of Qesher is to connect these different Jewish traditions, not just to know of each other, but to learn about each other. We believe that there is great value in creating a deeper understanding within the Jewish world and exploring Jewish experiences and identities in all their diversity.
