Israel’s Declaration of Independence: A History

Hosted By: Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA)

Ahead of Israel’s Independence Day, Yeshiva University Professor Neil Rogachevsky, co-author of “Israel’s Declaration of Independence: The History and Political Theory of the Nation’s Founding Moment,” will lead a two-part series exploring the country’s founding document. The first class will examine significant pre-drafts of the declaration, including the initial draft inspired by America’s Declaration of Independence, and the diplomatic and political controversies that influenced the final document. The second class will focus on David Ben-Gurion’s critical efforts to finalize the declaration in the 72 hours before independence.
