Hebrew for the High Holidays
Hosted By: My Jewish Learning
Want to truly understand those prayers you’re reading at High Holiday services this year?
Join beloved teacher Natasha Shabat to learn what you’re actually saying in temple, and to explore why the particular words carry such powerful meanings!
What do the Hebrew names of the holidays mean? What is the “Book of Life”? What is teshuvah? What are the “Ten Days”? What is “shecheḥeyanu”, and when do we say it? Why do so many Hebrew words end with “nu”? And what are the proper greetings for the High Holidays, too?
In just four sessions, you’ll learn the answers to those questions and many more; you’ll increase your Hebrew literacy; and you’ll discover how improving your Hebrew enhances your experience of the Jewish holidays.
The entire class will be conducted in English, with sources in Hebrew and transliteration. (No prior Hebrew knowledge required!)
